Domestic Violence Takes Its Toll…One Life at a Time

  • Approximately 1.5 million women and 834,732 men are raped and/or physically assaulted by an intimate partner annually in the United States.

  • Analysis of news reports from the past eight years reveals that, on an average, an adult or child dies every three days in Pennsylvania as the result of domestic violence.*

  • Approximately 17% of all people and 37% of women who sought treatment for violence-related injuries were hurt by a current or former intimate partner.*

  • A National Institute of Justice study estimates that domestic violence accounts for almost 15% of total crime costs - $67 billion per year.
